This piece is a part of the Calm series. A series of portraits covering swimmers of various ages. The Calm Series is inspired by the tranquil serenity while visiting the beach. The landscape is a calm ocean view with clear blue skies. Our artist takes the vision of the beach as a white place to think. The blowing wind and crashing waves are often a white noise allowing one to think. At the beach, more people lay in the sun or float in the water. There is a connected oneness with nature that we often overlook. Each subject is taking on the role of being human, the neutral color tone allows for the simple gray and white to show true form and shadow only.
This piece captures a girl in her 30's. The texture on her skin represents her growing age. Yes, she is still placed against a calm ocean and skyline. There is no stormy weather to come. She only looks slightly off into the distance, meaning minimal worries are crossing her mind. She lets the scenery encompass her, and the worries have begun to leave her.
