This unique sarcophagus tomb is located in Lafayette Cemetery No. 1. in the Garden District.
Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 is filled with a rich and unique history. It is one of the oldest city governed cemeteries and is home to the Mayfair Witches, Lafayette, and Jefferson firemen. The tomb featured in this painting is Toledano's tomb.
The alluring purple backdrop enhances the canting walls, marble stone paneling, and "wicked-shaped" parapets of Toledano's tomb. The corner pilasters, decorated by ornate carvings, are highlighted in layers of textural paint.
Our process of using torn, textured paper adds a three-dimensional element to the piece, accentuating the unique history of this tomb.
This photo was mounted to a textured paper background on a wood panel, then enhanced with Acrylic paint, CrasPas, and Oil Pastel.
