This is an original mixed media painting of the Rathbone Mansion's Hotel gate in New Orleans, Lousiana, USA. Both historic stately antebellum mansions along Esplanade Avenue date from 1840 and 1856. Located in the history-rich Treme neighborhood.
The magnificent iron posts and cast iron gate stand over 7 feet tall. One of the few iron gates not salvaged and remaining in New Orleans after the Civil War.
This photo was mounted to a textured background wooden panel then enhanced with acrylic paint, CrayPas, and Oil Pastels. Shown for its intricate ornamentation and fine details, the colors of navy and white bring out the natural highlights. The rough greenery at the base is a wonderful addition to soft mounds of moss growing on the gate.
