The inspiration behind this piece is just how big the white whale had become to Captain Ahab in his mind. The eye of the whale is made up of a silhouette of the captain walking up the huge white whale. Harpoon in his hand he is going to get Moby Dick.
The large white whale takes up most of the foreground, the background is the black water he is swimming up from. Engraved cross-hatching surrounds the whale image, blue paint is rubbed into the ground. The natural texture and grain from the wood show through the skin of the whale emulating his years at sea.
Each piece is all handcrafted from wood, hand-painted and for the finishing touch, we have added a unique reclaimed wooden lath frame. They are true works of art and each is uniquely created for you.
The focal point of these unique pieces is the white whale and is one of the four-pieces in our new collection all from Herman Melville's Moby Dick or the Whale, a classic piece of American literature. These being a visual representation of the chase throughout the novel. All feature Moby Dick as the main image, some feature the ship, the Pequod, the deep water of the oceans they sail in search of the whale.
