The tombs in the cemeteries of New Orleans are works of art in themselves. This tomb is located in Greenwood Cemetery on Canal Street, New Orleans.
This impressive, large-scale painting pays homage to this classic white marble family tomb. The remains of a cast-iron gate sit in front, sadly keeping no one out anymore. An Urn on top draped in cloth depicting the veil between life and death. The artful ornate carvings of the tomb are highlighted in layers of textural paint.
Just like the crumbling tombs, our process of using torn paper to create texture and imperfection. Paint wash is layered over to create this hauntingly beautiful emerald green backdrop in contrast to the white marble stone of the tomb. We hope we have captured the colorful history of this tomb.
