From our Calm Series of original paintings featuring the ocean, swimmers, and people at the beach. This one is a portrait of a swimmer at rest by the tranquil serenity of the beach. The landscape is still water and clear blue skies. Our artist takes the vision of the beach as a white place to think. The blowing wind and crashing waves are often a white noise allowing one to think. There is a connected oneness with nature that we often overlook.Â

This is the first in the series from artist Susan Havens-Morris of what will be five portraits of the same woman dating from the 1850s-1920s. Susan searched for a subject to explore time with. She paints from impressions of the image, not concerned with representing the features and details of the actual subject. Working with color to help define the ages of the women.Â
Jeni is youthful and bright life's troubles are slowly emerging but not present yet, as pictured by her blue, hopeful eyes are she is looking off in the distance, no concerns present in her face. Her crown of flowers is small, but full of life, with soft wisps of green and deep pink.

The Royal Street Horse Post Painting truly showcases the regality that New Orleans has to offer.
The rich greens and blues combined with the rich brass offer a strong background to showcase this stoic horse. The clean lines remind one of the structure and tradition that the city was molded on, while the crackles in the media remind us that the city's history runs deep in its veins.
The simplicity of this horse reminds us that classic is always best, whether it be for a meal, outfit, or accent piece. Royal Street Horse offers a clean take on the horse collection that would be a great addition to any home, office, or library. We hope this piece speaks to the traditionalist in you!Â

The Bienville Street Horse stands out in front of its warm yellow and dark red background. In the same way that Bienville Street is a perfect spot to catch a sunset on Bayou St. John, our Bienville Street Horse feels like it's galloping along the waterfront during sunrise.Â
The lighting on the horse himself is highlighted to appear to be the rays of sun shining through the clouds. The shadows from the clouds contrast against his blue-gray color, enhancing the detail in his mane. The textured paper gives the illusion of murky Bayou water reflecting off of him.

The Decatur Street Horse swims atop the boozy colors of red wine and dark whiskey. The sight of this painting transports one to the lively strolls in the French Quarter past Jackson Square, Cafe Du Monde, and Washington Park with Mint Juleps in tow!
The crumbled effect of this painting reminds us of the peaks and waves of the Mississippi River, which runs parallel to Decatur Street. The blue and white highlights are reminiscent of an evening spent on the riverwalk passing the steamboats and hearing the late night jazz musicians serenade your soul.Â
Decatur Street Horse would be a lovely addition to any vacation home or formal entertaining space. Whether it is placed in a focal point or accent point, this painting is sure to be the main talking point!Â

Silhouetted on a deep red background among layers of orange and black and highlighted in light blues, our Burgundy Horse Post lives up to his name.
Burgundy Street in the French Quarter is a favorite for local New Orleanians. Home to Cosimo's and The Ruby Slipper, Burgundy is lined with the down-home essentials that make the French Quarter livable. The blues that highlight the detail of the horse post are similar to the lights of Buffa's Lounge, which light up Burgundy Street with a warm and welcoming glow.Â
Similarly, our Burgundy Street Horse Post adds a comfortable and welcoming feeling to any spot in your home.Â

Our Dauphine heirs to pure royalty. Gracefully in profile with a slight smile in the corner of her mouth. Her mane is lush and full of vibrant violet and chartreuse highlights that appear to flow in the breeze. She glances at you from the corner of her eye, giving away the impression of knowing something you have yet to discover.Â
She sits against a dusty coral background, that is brushed over chips of dull emerald green. The chipping texture created in the background feels like a worn wallpaper crumbling in a ladies' powder room. Wisps of faded blue help balance with the emerald to not allow the coral color to overpower the background.Â
The overall warmth created in the painting associated with a feminine quality allowing it to become a statement piece in a ladies' room or a gift for someone special.
The Dauphine Street Horse Post is an original mixed media painting of a horse head hitching post in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Today, Horse hitch posts like our Dauphine are used to both add an old-world charm to the city and to keep cars from parking on the sidewalk.

This Horse post is the sister piece to "Bourbon Street Brunch Horse". An equal compliment to bookend the beautiful fun pair. They work well as his and her gifts for your favorite lively couple or place in the entryway to welcome your guests to your cheerful festivities.
The strategic highlights were meant to enhance the flowing mane of the horse and ridged edges of the banding. The multiple colors cause the hitch to glow in a bright neon sense emulating the bright lights that illuminate Bourbon Street. The thin whitewash over the rainbow of color raises the horse off the background mimicking the subtle morning fog that creeps over the quarter streets in the early morning hours after a long evening on Bourbon.Â
The fine glitter detail on this painting is original to this specific horse post. Every Mardi Gras this horse post is given a glitter bath, so much so that this horse is permanently glittery!

This is an original mixed media painting of a horse head hitching post on Bourbon St. in New Orleans, Louisiana. The horse hitching posts were originally used to "hitch" or tie a person's horse so that they could galavant around town running errands or grabbing cocktails. However, these days, they have a dual purpose of adding old-world charm and keeping cars from parking on the sidewalk!Â
These horse posts can be seen all over New Orleans. They stand 42 inches tall and are made of sturdy cast iron, making them one of the staple details of New Orleans.Â
This photo was mounted to a textured paper background, mounted to a wooden panel, then enhanced with acrylic paint, CrayPas, and Oil Pastels. Shown for its intricate ornamentation and fine details, the multiple lively colors bring out the character and pizazz of the area in which it is located. The fine glitter detail on the painting is original to this specific horse hitch and can be seen when visiting him in person on Bourbon Street. As the bright colors bleed into the complimentary white background, one appreciates the horse's natural shape and detail.

Our Frenchman horse sits silhouetted on a fiery orange background among a charred black. The subtle notes of brown texture look like aged flyers having been layered band ads on the Frenchman street post. Â It feels like standing under a dim streetlight in the evening. The darkness encompasses you and only small pockets of light from the music venues seem to guide you along the street.Â
To further emulate, the lighting on the horse himself is highlighted to appear under a white spotlight on stage. The Horse is fully dressed in his bridle, his mane has been slicked on top of his head, and ready to perform for the Frenchman masses. His eyes are exhilarated locking your gaze in.Â
The color pallet selected was minimal sticking is a rusty red as a nod to the weathered iron, the white reflects back the beaming New Orleans sun, and the faint moss green demonstrates the small bunches of living greenery that feed off the New Orleans humidity.

The Yellow Tomb is located in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 in New Orleans. St. Louis Cemetery was built in 1789, making it one of the oldest in the city.
One of the first things you'll see when you visit this cemetery is a bank of "wall vaults." These tombs stack gravesites, filing cabinet style, one above the other.Â
Many of these vaults house families, like the tomb, featured here. After a body is interred, it is left undisturbed in the grave for a period of one year and one day. At that point, the remains may be pushed to the back of the tomb, leaving room for another body to be interred. In fact, you can see that detail in this piece.
It appears that this tomb holds four, with someone recently being added in the upper right-hand corner. That corner has been cut open and re-plastered separately from the other three.
Our process of using torn, textured paper adds a three-dimensional element to the piece, accentuating the unique history of this tomb. Paint wash is then applied, creating a warm yellow backdrop, enhancing the whites and dark grays of the tomb. The dark reds, blues, and greens around the gate contrast with the vibrant backdrop, detailing the texture of the piece.
This photo was mounted to a textured paper background on a wood panel, then enhanced with Acrylic paint, CrasPas, and Oil Pastel.Â

The tombs in the cemeteries of New Orleans are works of art in themselves. This tomb is located in Greenwood Cemetery on Canal Street, New Orleans.Â
This impressive, large-scale painting pays homage to this classic white marble family tomb. The remains of a cast-iron gate sit in front, sadly keeping no one out anymore. An Urn on top draped in cloth depicting the veil between life and death. The artful ornate carvings of the tomb are highlighted in layers of textural paint.
Just like the crumbling tombs, our process of using torn paper to create texture and imperfection. Paint wash is layered over to create this hauntingly beautiful emerald green backdrop in contrast to the white marble stone of the tomb. We hope we have captured the colorful history of this tomb.

This is an original mixed media painting of the Rathbone Mansion's Hotel gate in New Orleans, Lousiana, USA. Both historic stately antebellum mansions along Esplanade Avenue date from 1840 and 1856. Located in the history-rich Treme neighborhood.
The magnificent iron posts and cast iron gate stand over 7 feet tall. One of the few iron gates not salvaged and remaining in New Orleans after the Civil War.Â
This photo was mounted to a textured background wooden panel then enhanced with acrylic paint, CrayPas, and Oil Pastels. Shown for its intricate ornamentation and fine details, the colors of navy and white bring out the natural highlights. This portrait of our beloved New Orleans musical legend was carved at our Uptown studio by artist Gregory Morris and krew of woodworking masters. The surface has a hand painted paint finish applied in black. Mr Armstrong is then carved into the wood exposing the wood's raw natural tones. Then its finished off by framing with a handsome reclaimed 100+-year-old wood that we leave natural. The exposed carving will patina and get darker with age.
You'll love how our Pops will remind you of Old New Orleans every day. It’s an excellent decoration that will make your home feel like Pennies from Heaven!Â
